On Thursday April 15th, 2003 at 1129hrs the Millville and Dagsboro Vol. Fire Co's and also the Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to a reported building fire in the SeaWinds development off of Sx 341. Dagsboro Asst. Chief Donald Stevens (7317) being in the area, arrived first to report an outside shed well involved. He also provided Millville's first engine (E842) under the direction of Deputy Chief Eric Huovinen the best placement for easiest access to the shed. Deputy Huovinen established command and Stevens assumed Operations. E2's crew pulled a 200' 1-3/4 hand line and made quick work of fire. Operations after speaking with the home owner advised command that there were numerous household chemicals and fuels in the shed and recommended that all firefighters remain in SCBA for overhaul. E731 arrived shortly thereafter and supplied E842. Remaining units were staged along the development's entrance and crews assisted in the overhaul of the shed and its contents. R73 provided re-hab for crews and Ambulance B84 evaluated the homeowner for minor smoke inhalation. The fire was placed under control at 1137hrs and the scene was turned over to FM4 (Lee) for investigation. Units cleared when ready and Deputy 84 terminated the command at 1210hrs.
