Trailer Fire - Maplewood Rd. Denton Woods
November 20, 2004
On Saturday November 20th the MVFC was dispatched to Maplewood Rd. in Denton woods for a reported trailer fire. E84-2 with Deputy Chief Rickards was the first on the street and was advised by the Sussex EOC that a second call from a neighbor reported that the fire was out. E-2 arrived to find a singlewide trailer with heavy smoke issuing from the interior and visible fire under the skirting. E-2's crews pulled a 1-3/4? hand line and just before putting it into service were driven back due to exploding oxygen cylinders that were stored on the porch. Truck 84 arrived and the two crews advanced two separate attack lines into the trailer before pulling back due to the extreme structural damage to the floor. Crews removed the skirting from the bottom of the trailer and the fire was extinguished. E84-4 picked up E2's LDH and was the supply piece. Chief 84 Hammond assumed Command and the Deputy had Operations. The fire was upgraded to a second alarm and the BBVFC provided the Quint to the scene and an Engine for cover-up at Station 84. The scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal's Office for the investigation.
