On Sunday, July 22 at 5:09 p.m., the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched along with the Sussex County Paramedics to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Holts Landing Road and Irons Lane. The ambulance crew and firefighters arrived to a two-vehicle accident with entrapment. A Ford Taurus station wagon and Chevrolet pickup collided at the intersection with the pickup impacting a utility pole. There were a total of seven occupants in the two vehicles, three in the Ford Taurus and four in the Chevrolet pickup. Additional Sussex County Paramedic units and ambulances from the Dagsboro and Frankford Volunteer Fire Companies were dispatched to the scene, along with the medical helicopters Delaware Trooper 2 and Maryland Trooper 4. It was necessary to cut the top off of the pickup to extricate the last occupant.
All seven occupants were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Five were transported in ambulances; four to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE, and one to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD.
The other two were transported by helicopter; one to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD by Maryland Trooper 4, and the other to Christiana Hospital in Christiana, DE by Delaware Trooper 2.
