On Monday August 18 at 8:59 p.m., the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, Sussex County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police helicopter Trooper 2 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at Atlantic Avenue and Irons Lane. Equipment began responding to the alarm within one minute of the dispatch. The ambulance crew and firefighters arrived to an accident involving a motorcycle and a car. As the operator of a Yamaha motorcycle was going west on Atlantic Avenue, the driver of an automobile made a left turn from Irons Lane into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the car and impacted the vehicle in its left front causing the motorcyclist to be thrown from his bike. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet and other protective clothing, was conscious when emergency crews arrived and was placed in the Millville Volunteer Fire Company ambulance for initial treatment. He was transferred to the Delaware State Police helicopter Trooper 2 and transported to Christiana Hospital for additional treatment of his injuries. The automobile operator was not injured. Fire Chief Eddie Hammond turned the accident scene over to the Delaware State Police for investigation. “DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
