On Saturday December 12 at 9:00 a.m., the Millville Volunteer Fire Company under the direction of Deputy Chief Doug Scott participated in a drill that included the Bethany Beach, Dagsboro, Frankford, and Roxana Volunteer Fire Companies. The purpose of the drill was to earn the residents protected by the Millville Volunteer Fire Company who live in a non-hydrant area a better protection rating that would reduce the cost of their homeowners insurance. Units were evaluated in the overall length of time it took to transfer water from one piece of apparatus to another, as well as the length of time to refill an empty unit at a fire hydrant. The Millville Volunteer Fire Company was also evaluated on the length of time it took for a unit to place a 100 foot line in service and flow water as an initial attack, the length of time it took for a unit to hook up to the tanker and flow water, and the length of time to draft from a pond and flow water in its final evolution. Mike Torkelson from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. was overseeing the entire drill and recording the data produced. The Insurance Services Office, Inc. will now evaluate the data to determine if a reduction rating is warranted as a result of today’s drill. It is anticipated the Millville Volunteer Fire Company will receive the results in approximately three(3) months. The Millville Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that residents living in hydrant areas will see a reduction in their homeowners insurance that will take effect in early 2010. This is the direct result of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company receiving an improved ISO rating of a “4” compared to its previous rating of a “5”. Again, with today’s drill the desired outcome is to be able to provide residents living in the non-hydrant areas a better protection rating, which would result in a decrease in the cost of their homeowners insurance. “DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
