At 9:54 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a structure fire in the 31000 Block of Sandpiper Road in the Ocean Village development with initial assistance from the Millville, Rehoboth and Roxana Volunteer Fire Companies. The firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the building. All occupants of the home were able to escape safely without any injuries. Officials reported the home was not equipped with working smoke detectors. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the blaze was caused by an electrical malfunction in a first floor bathroom.
