November 11, 2017
On Saturday, 11 November 2017, at 1706 Hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted and subsequently dispatched to assist Roxana VFC with a structure fire in the 37000 Block E. White Tail Drive in the Deer Run Acres subdivision. Selbyville VFC was also dispatched to battle this working fire.
Sussex County Paramedic Unit #105, manned by Becca Short and Matt Troutman were in the area when they noticed the heavy plume of smoke and contacted Sussex Communications with what they believed was a working fire. As they closed in on the street, their suspicions were correct, a dwelling and camping trailer were overwhelmed by flames. They were then able to provide a precise address for the responding fire apparatus.
Their quick thinking saved critical time for the responding units.
The firefighters worked feverishly to squelch this fire in its place to prevent it from spreading to adjoining properties.
In addition to the firefighters, both Roxana VFC and Millville VFC had a large contingent of Fire-Police on scene directing traffic. Captain Jack Melson represented MVFC.
The fire was called under control at 1820 hours by Chief Chris Uibel.
