Water Alarm at Giant Food

On Monday, 8 January 2018, at 1235 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched by Sussex EOC to an alarm at the Millville Giant Food Store. Immediately upon arriving, EMS Fire Chief John Watson discovered that a segment of overhead sprinklers actuated causing flooding in the east side of the grocery store. The store required a temporary evacuation of less than 15 minutes.

Millville VFC dedicated 2 pumpers, one under control of FF/EMT Wally Evans, second engine by Pump Operator, John Stephens. Shawn Evans manned the Brush Unit. Lt. Greg Hocker commanded this fire event. Lt. Hocker was assisted by future Junior Firefighter, Davis Watson, who arranged Accountability Tags.

MVFC Fire-Police shouldered the responsibility of diverting pedestrian and vehicular traffic throughout the congested parking lot.
