On Wednesday afternoon, 7 March 2018, at 1620 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted by Sussex County EOC for a structure fire in the 30000 block of Arrowhead Drive, in the Pine Crest Terrace subdivision. EOC operators advised the units in route that multiple callers were reporting fire was emanating from the dwelling.
Taking that information into consideration, Bethany Beach, Roxana, Dagsboro, Selbyville, and Frankford Volunteer Fire Companies were dispatched. This accounted for approximately 23 pieces of fire equipment at the fire scene, not including the cadre of Fire-Police from both MVFC and BBVFC.
At the time of this author’s arrival, fire was jetting from the windows on the west side of the structure at a precipitous rate. This fire event was declared under control at 1703 hours by Lt. Greg Hocker, Command Post Officer. Chief Tom Moore was tasked with directing the firefighters that were attacking the blaze, along with Chief Brian Martin who was also supervising this incident.
On behalf of Fire Chief Richie Walls, Asst. Chief Paul Sterling, President Clarke Droney, and the entire membership of MVFC, we truly thank all our brothers and sisters from the adjoining fire districts whom assisted in fighting this intense blazing inferno. I also understand that our brothers and sisters from Maryland filled in the Roxana Fire Station.
This home was not occupied at the time and appeared to be seasonal in nature.
One firefighter was taken ill at the scene and attended to by Sussex County Paramedics Weitzel and Faust in Unit 105.
