May 05, 2018
On Saturday afternoon, 5 May 2018, at 1246 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company received a response alarm from Sussex County E.O.C. for a structure fire in the 200 block of East Orlando Avenue in the Murry Estates subdivision.
Due to this category of fire, Bethany Beach and Roxana VFC’s were simultaneously dispatched to assist. Fortunately, another resident of Orlando Avenue, Gary Utz, who happens to be a retired career firefighter from the Anne Arundel Fire Department was there to lend a hand to the first arriving piece of fire apparatus in localizing the origin of the smoke. There must be a genetic factor in the DNA of a firefighter. They are always there to help whenever needed.
Once Captain Shawn Evans discovered the origin of the smoke, it was quickly extinguished and they began the cleanup process. The owners of the home were not present, but arrived soon after the fire had been extinguished.
Asst. Fire Chief, Ty Webb, commanded this fire event today. There were no reported injuries by fire personnel.
A quick thanks to Gary Utz for being there to assist!
