On April 28^th, 2022 at 1350 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Bethany Beach VFC with a reported woods fire.  The area of woods on fire was in a remote area along the Assawoman Canal in South Bethany.  Firefighters were shuttled to the scene by boat and water was drafted from the canal for fire suppression efforts.  This fire was difficult to extinguish due to the windy, dry conditions and the fire spreading “underground” throughout the woods floor.  Units operated for several hours before being released by Bethany Beach Command.
