On Tuesday January 31^st, 2023 the Millville Volunteer Fire Company held a farewell and appreciation luncheon for EMS Chief John Watson.  After 24 years of dedicated and professional service to the MVFC Chief Watson is moving on to the next chapter in this fire service career.  Fire Chief Walter Johnson, on behalf of the membership, presented Chief Watson with a plaque thanking him for his dedication, leadership and commitment to our company and our community”.

During Chief Watson’s tenure at the MVFC, John was instrumental in leading the company through a transition from a rather small career EMS staff to much larger and integrated fire/ems career response system. 

Chief Watson was also an integral part of our SCUBA team (since disbanded) taking the team’s training from a recreational based diver training to a public safety dive team model.  John served as the team’s Captain for many years and is credited in moving the team in a positive and professional direction.

In addition, Chief Watson was the driving force behind the creation of our community-wide EMS subscription program bring stability to our EMS funds raised on an annual basis.  John was the face of the MVFC to many of our government entities and community organizations within the MVFC fire protection district. 

Additionally, Chief Watson could be counted on to lead crews from the MVFC during countless fire, rescue and emergency medical calls for service.  John was a calm and effective leader and could be relied upon to bring the situation to a successful conclusion and bring our crews home safely.

Most importantly, Chief Watson was a mentor and friend to many members in the MVFC.  John presence around the firehouse will be greatly missed.  Again, we would like to wish John continued success the best wishes in his future endeavors in life and in the fire service.
