MVFC hold 1st

On Saturday March 4th, 2023 the Millville Volunteer Fire Company in conjunction with our neighboring mutual aid companies held our 1st “Down & Dirty” Fire Academy at Millville Fire Station #1.  Companies that participated were Bethany Beach VFC, Dagsboro VFD, Frankford VFC, Millville VFC, Selbyville VFC and Roxana VFC.  The purpose of the class was to introduce our entry level members, as well as members wishing a refresher, with basic training in all the core curriculum to be a firefighter.  Many of the attendees will be attending Basic Firefighting Skills training next weekend at the Delaware State Fire School and we wanted to make our members were prepared going into that training.  We had 15 students and 9 instructors participate in the training.  The topics covered were Firefighter Safety, Personal Protective Gear Use, Tools, Ropes & Knots, Hydrant Operations, Hose & Appliances, Hose Deployment & Hose Handling, Ground Ladders, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and Forcible Entry.  Instructors for the class were Tom Moore Sr. (Bethany Beach), Jason McCabe (Dagsboro), Curtis Stevens (Frankford), Dennis Ayres, Dave Carr, Ty Webb, A.J. Moore and Douglas Scott (Millville), James Turner (Selbyville) and Derek Kuebeck (90).  The Millville VFC would like to thank all that attended and instructed this class.  We were impressed by the professionalism of the instructors that took their time to pass along to a new generation of firefighters their knowledge and experience.  We were equally impressed by the students that attended.  The students were attentive, motivated and respectful during a long day of training.  We wish the students a successful and safe fire service career, you did an awesome job!!  We would also like to thank Mr. Bill Bowden Sr. and Mr. Johnny Stephens for the logistical support provided to make this class a success, we couldn’t have done it without you.  Photos by MVFC & Tony Petralia Sr.
