On Saturday February 10^th, 2024 at 1532 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched on Box 76-73-84, along with the Dagsboro VFD to assist the Frankford VFC with a reported house fire in the 40 block of Thatcher Street in Frankford.  Units arrived to find a large two story balloon frame constructed residential dwelling with smoke showing from the rear of the dwelling.  Fire would be found on all floors including a large attic space.  The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour.  Engine 84-4, Engine 84-2 and Tanker 84, along with units from Frankford VFC, Dagsboro VFD, and Selbyville VFC made the response.  Fire Chief John Wright (76-15) had command of the incident.  The fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. 

This fire presented several challenges including balloon frame construction, allowing the fire to spread in the stud space from the crawl space to the attic.  In addition, this dwelling had been converted into several apartments, altering the original layout and complicating access.
