On Wednesday September 11th, 2024 at 1220 hours, the Millville Volunteer Fire Company EMS along with the Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to the Bear Trap Dunes Clubhouse in Ocean View for a medical emergency. EMS personnel were able to quickly determine the patient was having a serious medical emergency and requested the assistance of an aviation unit to transport the patient to a specialty center with the capabilities to best help the patient. Due to other serious incidents occurring within the region both normally dispatched helicopters were unavailable. For the second time this week, a request for Maryland State Police Aviation was placed with Syscom in Baltimore, Maryland. Syscom was able to dispatch Maryland Trooper 4 from the Salisbury, Maryland hanger to handle the mission. BLS and ALS EMS crews worked diligently to provide stabilizing treatment and transported the patient to a landing zone at Station 1 on Atlantic Avenue in Millville. The patient was transferred to the care of Maryland State Police Flight Paramedics and the patient was transported to the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Once again, the Millville Volunteer Fire Company would like to acknowledge the valuable partnership with our surrounding basic life support, advanced life support and aviation assets within the region. This partnership allows the patients needing critical care the best Emergency Medical Services possible. The Millville Volunteer Fire Company would also like to acknowledge the assistance of the Ocean View Police Department during this incident.
