November 04, 2024

On Monday November 4th 2024 at 0930 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, while at the scene of an automatic fire alarm, was dispatched to the area of Windmill Drive and Central Avenue in Ocean View to a reported fluid spill.  Units arrived to find a large amount of hydraulic fluid from a broken line on a garbage truck spread along the roadway for approximately 400’.  Units utilized absorbent carried on our apparatus to contain the fluid and keep it from making it into the nearby soil and storm drains.  Additional absorbent was requested from DNREC and the Millsboro VFC hazardous materials trailer to assist with the containment operations.  DELDOT was requested for traffic control units and a street sweeper to assist at the incident.  The scene was turned over to DNREC and a private clean up contractor for final scene mitigation.  Engine 84-2, Engine 84-4, Rescue 84, Traffic Control 84-13, Command 84-8 and Ambulance B-84 made the response.  The Ocean View Police Department assisted with traffic control.  Units operated for approximately 1 hour.  Captain Douglas Scott had command of the incident.
