February 21, 2025

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce honored the outstanding police officers, paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters on Friday, February 21st, at Signatures at Bayside. Continuing twenty years of tradition, the Carl M. Freeman Companies presented the 2025 Joshua M. Freeman First Responder Awards, recognizing the service and dedication of emergency personnel. Representatives of the Chamber, public safety organizations, local towns, and government officials were present to honor these first responders for their service and commitment. Millville Volunteer Fire Company was honored in two categories - Firefighter of the Year and EMT of the Year.
Firefighter of the Year was a shared award. MVFC Past Chief Walter Johnson, MVFC Fire Police Gregory Tietmeyer, MVFC Firefighter/EMT Logan Bowden, and Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company Deputy Chief Thomas "Tommy" Moore shared the honor of Firefighter of the Year for their heroic efforts to rescue a man from a burning structure in the Bethany Crest Subdivision last June.
MVFC EMT Alfred "AJ" Moore was honored with EMT of the Year. AJ is also our Chief Safety Officer.
To be considered, each recipient's leadership had to submit nominations. Congratulations to our honored firefighters, EMTs, and the other honorees for Police Officer of the Year, Firefighter of the Year, and EMT/Paramedics of the Year.
