Joint Training with Bethany Beach in a residential structure.

March 29, 2025

Today, we had an opportunity to participate in joint training with station 70 Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company. It's great to train in real-world situations instead of props and with members of our neighboring company. This house, slated to be torn down, allowed us to train in an actual house structure. We practiced ventilating roofs using different techniques and tools. Then, we moved to venting windows and breaching doors again with multiple methods and tools. Having the ability to self-extricate in an emergency is an important skill, so we also practiced breaching walls to exit dangerous situations. We finished up the day with search and rescue. Using a smoke machine, we simulated real-world conditions and used the available rubble to simulate rescuing a trapped victim. MVFC has a Junior Firefighter program. Junior Firefighter Leland Oakley participated along side Senior members and did a great job learning new skills. MVFC would like to thank the property owner and Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company for inviting us to participate.
