Working House Fire - The Reserves - Ocean View

August 28, 2003

On August 28th at 0546 hrs, the Millville and Bethany Beach Vol. Fire Co's as well as the Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to Woodland Ave. in Ocean View for a reported house fire. (8418) 3rd Asst. Chief Shawn Evans responding from home arrived within 5 minutes and found a working fire. He provided the correct address which was in "The Reserves" and immediately called EOC to upgrade to a second alarm, which would bring automatic cover-up crews as well as bringing a RIT team into the scene. E84-2 under the direction of 2nd Asst. Chief Temple arrived moments after and his three person crew of FF/Warburton, Lt./Lloyd and himself made forcible entry into the kitchen and made an aggressive interior attack. TK84 took a position in the front driveway, laddered the roof and provided a ventilation hole. BBVFC first in units pulled a second line to the interior and searched for extension into the second floor. Chief 70/Parrett was assigned operations while Deputy70/Moore handled accountability. Additional Crews from Roxana and Rehoboth Beach assisted in overhaul operations. Crews remained on scene until 0800 where the scene was turned over to the DSFM office for investigation. "The Reserves" is an ups2cale gated community in Southern Ocean View. The residence was for sale and no one was occupying it at the time of the fire. A major lightening storm pummeled the area the night before and initial speculation of a cause centers around a possible lightening strike. Graig Temple, Asst. Chief/PIO
