TRAILER FIRE, DOVE ROAD, BAYSHORE MOBILE HOME PARK
November 1, 2003 ? 0423 Hours.
On November 1, 2003 at 0423 hours, Millville, Bethany Beach fire companies, along with Sussex County Medic Unit 105 were dispatched to a reported trailer fire located at #7 Dove Road in Bayshore Mobile Home Park off of Sandy Cove Road north of Ocean View. Assistant Chief Shawn Evans (84-18) arrived at 0431 hours to find a single wide mobile home with heavy fire throughout; a second alarm was requested at this time. Engine 84-2 arrived at 0433 hours and began an initial interior attack with a 1 ?? pre-connect hand line. After determining the floor had burnt through; knock down of the fire was continued through various openings using additional 1 ?? hand lines from Engine 84-2 and Quint 70. Upon arrival of Truck 84 with Chief Douglas Scott onboard, command was transferred to Chief Scott, with Assistant Chief Evans assuming operations. Chief Scott further expanded the Incident Command System to include the staff positions of Accountability (C. Miller-70), Safety (H. Lloyd), Water Supply (D. Harkins), Manpower Staging (E. Hammond), and Medical Rehabilitation (Tait, 105). Water Supply was established initially by Tanker 84, and then supplemented by Engine 70-1 and Engine 84-1 using LDH from a hydrant on Sandy Cove Road. The RIT assignment was handled by Roxana Engine 90-5 and Dagsboro Engine 73-1 (84-4). Cover assignments were 73-1 and 76-1 initially, these units were later transferred to the scene for assistance with overhaul and cleanup and Selbyville Engine 88-4 was used to re-fill at Millville. Rehoboth Beach Engine-Tanker 86-5 stood by for Bethany Beach. The Delaware State Fire Marshal (Ward FM3 & Miller FM10) is investigating the cause of the fire.
