Early Tuesday morning January 4th at 0317am the MVFC, Roxana VFC and Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to a reported working house fire on Powell Farm Rd. Due to some confusion from the caller, it was undetermined where the actual address was. 84-18 (3rd Asst. Chief Temple) was the first unit in the area and reported that the fire was actually on Peppers Corner Rd. E/O Beaver Dam Rd. (Sta90's first due). Upon arriving to the scene a singlewide trailer was found to be well involved with all occupants being reported out of the structure. 84-2 under the direction of 1st Asst. Chief Scott arrived moments later and was ordered to place a 2-1/2" attack line in service. The majority of the fire was knocked down quickly with a crew from Roxana pulling an additional 1-3/4 crosslay from 84-2 to finish the extinguishment. A water supply was established by using relay pumping between Millville's tractor-trailer tanker to E90-5 and finishing into E84-2 the attack engine. E90-1 responded from Sta 90's substation and took a position on the East Side. They provided an additional handline as well as exposure protection. Their water supply was handled by Engine/Tanker 84-4. Command placed the situation under control in an hour with units remaining on the scene for an additional 30 minutes with overhaul and making units ready for service. The scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal's Office for the investigation. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced family. The only casualty during this incident was a family dog that perished in the blaze.
