ACCIDENT WITH WATER RESCUE - CENTRAL AVENUE, OCEAN VIEW

October 02, 2006

On Monday, October 2nd at 2:12 p.m., the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with water rescue on Central Avenue in Ocean View. The vehicle was reported to be in a pond with the driver out of the vehicle and on top of it. Both the Millville Volunteer Fire Company and Ocean View Police Department responded to the scene. The driver of a 1996 Jeep Cherokee had been traveling south on Central Avenue when he suddenly felt sick and blacked out. His vehicle veered off of Central Avenue, went up an embankment, struck a small tree, went down the other side of the embankment, and ended up in the middle of a retention pond at Bear Trap Dunes. Fortunately, the driver woke up and was able to get out of his vehicle and crawl on top of it. Chief Ken McLaughlin of the Ocean View Police Department donned his water rescue suit and took a life preserver to the driver, who reported he was still feeling dizzy. The driver was brought to land with the help of Chief McLaughlin and two members of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company Dive Team. Members of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Squad treated the driver for minor injuries at the scene, and then transported him to the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes where he was treated and released. No charges were filed as a result of the accident. "DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY"
