Two-Vehicle Accident With Extrication - Peppers Corner and Roxana Roads

September 15, 2007

On Saturday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m., the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched along with the Sussex County Paramedics to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Peppers Corner and Roxana Roads.  The ambulance crew and firefighters arrived to a two-vehicle accident with extrication.  A Ford Escort and Buick Century were involved in a collision at the intersection.  There were a total of five occupants in the two vehicles, one in the Ford Escort and four in the Buick Century.  An additional ambulance from the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to the scene, along with the medical helicopter Delaware Trooper 2.

Crews focused on treating the occupants of each vehicle.  An extrication process was initiated on the two passengers seated in the rear of the Buick Century since the driver and passenger in the front of the vehicle were out and uninjured.  A decision was made to cut the top off of the Buick to facilitate the extrication and treatment of the occupants in the rear seat.  Three patients were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.  Two were transported in ambulances; one to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE, and one to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD.  The other patient was transported by helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD by Delaware Trooper 2.  Engine Lieutenant Craig Temple turned the accident scene over to the Delaware State Police for investigation.
