Firefighter Harry Warburton Receives The Josh M. Freeman Valor Award - Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce

February 08, 2008

On February 8, 2008, Millville Volunteer Fire Company Firefighter Harry Warburton received the Josh M. Freeman Valor Award while attending the annual Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce awards luncheon sponsored by Carl M. Freeman Companies at the Bistro at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View. The Millville Volunteer Fire Company nominated Firefighter Harry Warburton for the prestigious Joshua M. Freeman Valor Award, and the members are very proud to have Harry as part of the organization. Harry’s fire service career, which is quickly approaching 47 years of service, is both extensive and impressive. His dedication to the citizens of the Millville Fire District and surrounding communities is unparalleled among his peers. Harry was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1940. He joined the Verga, New Jersey Fire Department in 1961 at the age of eighteen, but soon transferred to the Pitman New Jersey Fire Patrol in 1963. Harry held numerous offices including Lieutenant, 1st Assistant Chief, 2nd Assistant Chief, and was elected to the office of Fire Chief in 1990, serving in that capacity for four years. Prior to leaving New Jersey in 1993, Harry received the Mayor’s Silver Medal for 32 years of outstanding service to his community. In 1993 Harry moved to Millville and brought his love of the fire service with him, whereupon he promptly joined the Millville Volunteer Fire Company. He has served our company as an active Firefighter for nearly 15 years with the same dedication as was shown in New Jersey. Harry is consistently among the company’s top responders to fire alarm responses and other emergencies. In 2004, the Millville Volunteer Fire Company honored Harry by bestowing him with two of its most coveted and prestigious honors, Firefighter of the Year and Member of the Year. Harry continues to respond regularly to fire and ambulance calls. In 2007 Harry responded to 214 fire calls and served as a driver for the ambulance many times. It is truly an honor for all members of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company to serve with an individual like Harry. Many lives and property have been saved as a result of Harry’s efforts. Again, we would like to congratulate Harry Warburton for receiving the Joshua M. Freeman Valor Award. We believe he is most deserving of this great honor. “DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
