Working Mobile Home Fire - Bethany Crest Mobile Home Park
February 27, 2008
At 2:08 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, the Roxana, Frankford and Millville Volunteer Fire Companies were dispatched along with the Sussex County Paramedics to a structure fire at the 35000 block of Roxana Road. As units began responding to the early morning alarm, it was determined the alarm was actually in the Millville Volunteer Fire Company’s district, not at the 35000 block of Roxana Road. Responding units were redirected to the Bethany Crest Mobile Home Park on Atlantic Avenue (Route 26) east of Roxana Road. The responders arrived to a mobile home engulfed in flames. Millville’s Chief Doug Scott initiated an attack on the mobile home with two 1¾-inch compressed air foam lines from Millville’s Engine 6. The Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company was also dispatched to provide additional assistance with the alarm. An adequate water supply was established with the equipment that responded to the scene. The mobile home was vacant at the time of the alarm. An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the structure. A boat in the yard adjacent to the mobile home received an estimated $15,000 in damage. No firefighters received any injuries during the alarm.
