Structure Fire Assist With Bethany Beach Vol Fire Co - Heather Lane, Bethany Dunes

At 7:54 p.m. on Friday, March 21, the Millville and Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Companies responded to a house fire assist with the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company at 17 Heather Lane in Bethany Dunes. The firemen arrived to a 3-story home with fire on the ground floor extending up to the second floor. A total of eight fire companies responded to the scene, with four additional companies providing cover-up assistance. Bethany Beach Fire Chief Tom Moore declared the fire under control at 8:42 p.m. No injuries were reported, however, the family’s pet cat died from the smoke and heat. The owner of the home was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector. An investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire started in a utility room on the ground floor.
