House Fire Assist With Roxana Volunteer Fire Company - 33000 Block of Daisey Road
July 04, 2008
At 9:55 p.m. on Friday, July 4, the Millville and Frankford Volunteer Fire Companies responded to a house fire assist with the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company at the 33000 Block of Daisey Road. Since the Millville Volunteer Fire Company had been dispatched to a structure fire four minutes prior to this alarm, Engine 84-1 from Station 2 was directed to the assist with Roxana. The firemen were the first to arrive to a fire in the roof area of a garage attached to a two-story residence. Millville’s crew made the initial attack to suppress the fire until additional engines arrived on the scene. Fire damage was able to be contained to the garage area. The fire was declared under control at 10:38 p.m. One firefighter from the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was transported to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Maryland for heat related symptoms. Prior to this alarm, the area had received a thunderstorm with severe lightning. An investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire started by a lightning strike. Observant neighbors noticed the fire and called 911. The owners were not at home when the fire started.
