Motor Vehicle Crashes Into Utility Pole - 34000 Block of Atlantic Avenue

July 20, 2008

On Sunday July 20 at 4:30 p.m., the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, Sussex County Paramedics, and Delaware State Police helicopter Trooper 2 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the 34000 block of Atlantic Avenue. The ambulance crew and firefighters arrived to a single-vehicle accident. As the driver of a Ford Taurus was going west on Atlantic Avenue, he lost control of the vehicle and impacted a utility pole on the right side of the road, which resulted in downed power lines that were energized. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was conscious and remained in the vehicle until the Delmarva Power Company was able to respond and de-energize the electrical wires. Ambulance personnel then removed the driver from the vehicle and transported him to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland for treatment. Deputy Chief Shawn Evans turned the accident scene over to the Delaware State Police for investigation. “DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
