Dry Suit Certification - Dutch Springs, Bethlehem, PA
September 28, 2008
The weekend of September 27th and 28th members of the Millville Dive Team, Ocean City Dive Rescue Team and Bethany Beach VFC participated in a PADI Dry Suit Certification class hosted by the Millville VFC. The class was taught by Bill Krebs of the Silent Blue SCUBA School and held at Station 84. The pool session was conducted at the Sea Colony Complex in Bethany Beach while the Open Water session was held at the Dutch Springs Quarry in Bethlehem, PA.
Divers were taught the proper operations and emergency procedures of the Dry Suits as well as the care and maintenance of these specialized units. Divers were certified after demonstrating proficiency at depths reaching 60 feet. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that Public Safety Dive Teams operate in dry suits as well as full face masks to protect them from hazardous conditions, extremely cold water and also allowing for direct communications between divers and surface support. Currently the MVFC has 3 dry suits and 6 full face masks with more to be phased in. The MVFC would like to thank Rick Parrott of ResortQuest for providing the local pool for the class.
