Trailer Fire - 37000 Block Mississippi Drive - Plantation Park
October 06, 2008
At 10:32 a.m. on Monday, October 6, the Millville, Bethany Beach and Roxana Volunteer Fire Companies were dispatched along with the Sussex County Paramedics to a structure fire at the 37000 block of Mississippi Drive in Plantation Park. The responders arrived to a mobile home with the rear area engulfed in flames, along with a 500-pound propane tank that had vented and was burning. Millville’s Truck Lieutenant Doug Scott directed an offensive attack on the mobile home with two 1¾-inch compressed air foam lines from Millville’s Engine 6. The first line was directed at the outside of the dwelling and the propane tank. An interior attack with the second line was conducted through the front door. The dwelling was simultaneously searched for any occupants. A third line was placed in service to provide additional cooling and control of the burning propane tank. The Dagsboro and Selbyville Volunteer Fire Companies were also dispatched to provide additional water supply assistance for controlling the propane tank fire. The Rehoboth, Frankford and Selbyville Volunteer Fire Companies provided standby assistance during the alarm. The mobile home was vacant at the time of the alarm and scheduled to be removed from the park that day. An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. No firefighters received any injuries during the alarm.
