Electrical Hazard Due To Lightning Strike - Cedar Bay Condominiums, Cedar Neck Road
July 01, 2009
At 11:18 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a reported building struck by lightning at the Cedar Bay Condominiums located on Cedar Neck Road. Upon arrival at the 2000 building, the responders found a rain gutter and two HVAC electrical disconnects struck by lightning on the southeast corner of the building at ground level. Crews checked the entire building, including the attic, and found no other problems. The HVAC equipment in units 2212 and 2312 were secured by pulling the disconnects at the outside condensers. The elevator was stuck in the open position at floor level on the 2nd floor. When CPR Property Management was contacted, a request was made for the responders to secure the power to the elevator at the main shut off in the Elevator Room on the 1st floor. Deputy Chief Doug Scott declared the situation under control at 11:47 p.m. Fire Marshall Richard Ward was notified on Thursday morning about the incident via telephone.
