Ocean View Police Department Bicycle Safety Checkpoint - Atlantic Avenue, Ocean View

July 09, 2009

On July 9th, 2009 the Ocean View Police Department under the direction of Chief Kenny McLaughlin, in cooperation with DelDot, the State of Delaware Office of Highway Safety, the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Service, and the Millville Volunteers Group conducted a bicycle safety checkpoint. More than 60 bicyclists were contacted. Each bicycle received a safety inspection, had front and rear lights installed, and educational materials were handed out. The checkpoint was in operation from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The Millville Volunteer Fire Company would like to commend Chief McLaughlin and all involved for their tireless efforts to avert a tragedy on our local roadways. We would also like to remind all motorists to be aware of the high level of bicycle and pedestrian traffic on our local roads during the busy summer season. “DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
