8th Annual Mass of Remembrance with 9/11/2001 Tribute - Gate of Heaven Cemetary, Vines Creek Road, Dagsboro
September 11, 2010
On Saturday, September 11, the Millville, Bethany Beach, and Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Companies, and the Ocean View Police Department participated in the 8th Annual Mass of Remembrance held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Vines Creek Road operated by the Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Wilmington. Included in this year’s Mass of Remembrance was a special tribute to all of the individuals who lost their lives due to the horrendous attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. Members of the Mason-Dixon VFW Post 7234 of Ocean View performed a military tribute. An impressive display of 2,996 tiny American flags were methodically placed in rows in an area behind the assembly tent, one for each person who died on September 11. A special thanks goes out to the Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Wilmington for including a special honor for the many emergency responders, military personnel and civilians affected by the events on that fateful day in 2001.
