The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce honored eight area police officers and firefighters at the 2011 Joshua M. Freeman Valor Award luncheon on Friday, February 11 at DiFebo’s Bistro on the Green at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View. The awards ceremony, named for developer and philanthropist Joshua M. Freeman (1964-2006), recognizes outstanding police officers and firefighters within the Chamber’s service area. Millville Volunteer Fire Company proudly nominated Firefighter Craig Temple as its representative for Firefighter of the Year.
Millville Volunteer Fire Company Chief Richie Walls had this to say about Craig Temple in his nomination: “Craig Temple joined the company as a third generation volunteer firefighter in 1971 as a junior fireman. Mr. Temple joined the company in regards to helping the community in any emergency that resides in the Millville Fire district. Mr. Temple is a quiet gentleman who likes to get the job done in a timely and professional manner. In certain times of conflicts in the inner walls of the firehouse, he is the guy who tries to enhance the morale and integrity of the company. This individual has received over 500 plus hours of training through Delaware State Fire School and related classes. He has served under many fire chiefs in different capacities, including Assistant chief all the way down to a Lieutenant. During his time as a firefighter, he has been a mentor to a multitude of junior firemen, where he served for many years as the junior advisor. He recently received his 40-year service award and has been an active firefighter for all forty years; he doesn’t look to be giving up anytime soon. In conclusion, for forty years Craig Temple has been spending countless hours away from his family helping other families in their time of need. Not only has he served the community, but he also has served his fellow Fire Fighters in any capacity necessary.
