Lifetime Member Linwood Marvel Answers His Last Alarm - Elizabeth City, NC
July 26, 2011
Millville Volunteer Fire Company’s Linwood B. Marvel answered his last alarm on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the home of his daughter in Elizabeth City, NC after an extended illness. Linwood was Millville Volunteer Fire Company’s oldest active member with 61 years of service. During Linwood’s membership with the Millville Volunteer Fire Company he held the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer, as well as being a Past President of the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. In 1970 Linwood was appointed the first Chaplain of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, a position he actively held for 42 consecutive years. Linwood’s presence in the Millville Volunteer Fire Company will be greatly missed. He was highly respected for his experience, wisdom and reasoning. Over the years, it was not uncommon at the end of a Company meeting in which things may have gotten a little contentious, when it came time for the good of the Company and the closing prayer, Linwood would provide the words necessary to help the membership remain focused on our task of providing the best possible fire and ambulance service to our communities. Services will be held at the Ocean View Church of Christ, 51 West Avenue, in Ocean View on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with the funeral service beginning at noon. Burial will be at the St. George’s Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.
