Working Structure Fire - 32000 Block Hickory Manor Road, Dagsboro

November 10, 2012

At 12:22 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, the Millville, Frankford and Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Companies were dispatched along with the Sussex County Paramedics to a working structure fire in the 32000 block of Hickory Manor Road. Units began responding within two minutes of the dispatch of the early afternoon alarm. When Millville Deputy Chief Bobby Magee arrived at the scene, smoke and fire was coming from the rear second story of an older style balloon-frame constructed structure. An interior attack was initiated to contain and suppress the fire by the crew of Millville’s Engine 6, which had dropped a 5 inch supply line at the intersection of Omar Road. Truck 84 was set up to prepare for truck operations. The occupants of the house informed the firefighters that everyone was accounted for and out of the structure. Rehab 90 assisted in the rehab station of the firefighters. The Bethany Beach, Selbyville, Millsboro and Gumboro Volunteer Fire Companies also provided additional assistance during the alarm. Millville Fire Chief R.C. Evans declared the situation under control at 2:24 p.m. The investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office determined a 5-year old juvenile residing in the house started the fire by playing with a lighter. Damage to the structure and contents was estimated at $78,500. “DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS PROUDLY SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
