On Thursday, 16 November 2017, at 1228 Hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist Roxana VFC with a vehicular collision at the intersection of Roxana Road and Daisey Lane. This vehicle had overturned trapping the 2 occupants in an upside down post-crash position. Due to the complexity of this collision, numerous fire and medical units were alerted to respond to the crash site.
Several Sussex County Paramedic Units were at the scene to provide preliminary treatment the injured occupants. One occupant was able to escape the vehicle within a few moments, but unfortunately the other occupant was trapped inside. Sussex County Paramedics and others found it necessary to enter this vehicle in its dangerous state to treat the injured before being extricated. Fire & Rescue personnel found it necessary to employ several “Jaws of Life” tools to extricate the lone individual from the vehicle.
The injured individuals were transported to a medical facility for advanced treatment. At the time of this writing, details of the accident and injuries are unknown.
Delaware State Police were tasked with this investigation. Officer First Class Harrington, OVPD, assisted DSP with their investigation.
As a side note, this author witnessed a picture-perfect vehicle extrication. The cooperation between the two fire companies was nothing short of spectacular to watch. Very little conversation took place among the rescuers’, it was obvious their training took over. As a resident of Ocean View, I’m very lucky to have such competent “VOLUNTEERS” ready when needed. I believe there are newer residents that have little or no concept that these brave men and women are volunteers.
Chiefs R.C. Evans, John Watson and Ty Webb commanded the MVFC portion of this serious rescue operation.
Fire-Police from both volunteers companies did their jobs in diverting all traffic away from this busy intersection.
