On Saturday, 23 December 2017, at 1334 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted and subsequently responded to a field fire in the 32000 block of Omar Road. Initial unit arriving at scene stated it was approximately 150’ by 150’. Due to the size of this fire event, Dagsboro VFC was requested to respond with their Brush Unit.
The initial attack guided by Chief Doug Scott was successful and the fire was extinguished quickly. The brush units were able to control the few remaining “hot spots”.
MVFC utilized several pumpers, brush truck and tanker. Fire-Police Harold Lloyd and Greg Tietmeyer rerouted traffic around the apparatus along Omar Road.
This also allowed me to utilize our UAV (drone) for training. If the fire was to have spread, today’s officer in charge, Chief Doug Scott, would have been able to view the environment from a stationary position or command post. There were no reported injuries at today’s fire scene.
