On Friday evening, 26 January 2018, at 1854 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted by Sussex County E.O.C. to respond to the 33000 block of Beck Circle to investigate an odor emanating from the home.
MVFC responded with a pumper, ladder truck, command vehicle and 2 EMS vehicles, along with Fire Police. This home is owned by a lovely senior citizen couple of Millville. It appeared to be a malfunction in the hot water heater. Chief Scott and his crew made an exhaustive search of the dwelling to ensure there was nothing else so this elderly couple could be placed at ease.
This event attracted many neighbors to exit their homes to obtain a better view. One neighbor I spoke with, Lori Barnhard, explained “all this excitement is not the norm on their quiet street”.
This fire-event was co-commanded by Chief Doug Scott and Lt. Matt Mudry. Captain Jack Melson oversaw the Fire-Police
