April 22, 2018
On Sunday afternoon, 22 April 2018, at 1340 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company, along with Bethany Beach, Roxana, and Frankford VFC’s were dispatched by Sussex County EOC to the Clubhouse in the Millville by the Sea subdivision for an outside fire.
Fire Police, Greg Tietmeyer, was first to arrive and notified Lt. Greg Hocker, who was still in-route there were exposures to the structure. Lt. Hocker was the mobile incident commander, while Chief Tom Moore (BBVFC) tackled the exterior operations faction of this incident. Due to Chief Tom Moore and Chief Engineer Dave Carr’s tactics utilized in fighting this fire, the crew was proficient enough to hold the fire to the exterior, nothing on the interior of the structure suffered any damage.
This fire was brought under control much quicker than anticipated. For that reason, Roxana VFC was able to return to their quarters, while Frankford VFC was kind enough to fill-in MFVC until they cleared the fire scene.
Thanks to the quick-thinking of Fire-Police Greg Tietmeyer, additional fire apparatus was dispatched prior to an engine company arriving to evaluate the situation.
Considering the amount of manpower at this incident, no injuries were sustained by any of the firefighters or EMS crews.
