On Wednesday, 9 May 2018, 1533 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted by Sussex County EOC for a vehicle collision with injury at the intersection of Roxana and Burbage Roads.
Rescue 84, Engine 6, Ambulance 84, Command Unit 8 responded along with a corps of Fire-Police due to this heavily traveled roadway. The lone injured party was transported to BeBee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
A sad note to this event, the vehicle responsible for this collision failed to remain at the scene. Fortunately, Ocean View Police Officer First Class, Troy Bowden, while on routine patrol was able to locate and subsequently stop the wanted vehicle by the description provided on Beaver Dam Road just west of Central Avenue. Kudos to OFC Troy Bowden. I was present when OFC Bowden handcuffed the driver and this driver appeared totally oblivious to his surroundings and not from the collision!! How many other people would have been hurt without this rapid intervention by OFC Troy Bowden?
Lt. Greg Hocker commanded the cleanup and EMS Chief John Watson oversaw the medical portion of this incident.
