2- Alarm Fire in Bethany Lakes Subdivision

July 12, 2022

Multi-Alarm fire in Bethany Lakes subdivision
On Tuesday morning, at approximately 0930 hours, Millville VFC was dispatched by Sussex County EOC to a dwelling fire in the 31000 block of May Drive.
Fire Chief Guy Rickards was one of the first arriving units and stated fire was already emanating from the roof. Considering the strength of the fire and home size, many more pieces of fire apparatus were summoned.
Those companies included Millville, Bethany Beach, Roxana, Dagsboro, Bishopville, Frankford, Selbyville, Ocean City, and Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Companies. It was estimated that 75 firefighters were on site. Sussex County Paramedics Leah O’Boyle, Fred Haas, and Austin Kauffman provided rehabilitation services to the fire crews. John Marvel from DelDot assisted in traffic control. A full complement of Fire-Police was required since Fred Hudson Road was deemed unsafe for vehicular traffic due to the amounts of fire apparatus staging.
There we no reported injuries to any fire or civilian personnel. There are conflicting statements as to whether the home was occupied when the fire was initiated. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating this devastating fire event.
Fire Chief Guy Rickards was the on-site command officer.

I believe my photographs will provide a better idea of what occurred.
