On September 14th, 2022 at 0939 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a reported cardiac arrest at Evans Park on Dukes Drive in Millville. Upon arrival crews found a male patient suffering a life threatening medical emergency. Patrons at the park at the time initiated CPR and were able to access an on-site AED from the community building. Upon applying the AED a shock was advised and delivered. Upon arrival of MVFC units the patient had a pulse. The patient was transported to a local medical facility in stable condition by the MVFC ambulance crew and Sussex County Paramedics.
The Millville VFC cannot emphasize enough the value of timely CPR along with the use of an available AED to deliverer a shock to a patient with a life threatening heart rhythm. We would like commend the citizens on the scene that day for doing an excellent job and saving the patient’s life. We would also like to commend the Town of Millville for having an AED available at the park. Please see the below videos for more information on Hands Only CPR and the use of an AED.
