On March 10th, 2023 at 1536 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company along with the mutual aid rescue assignment Dagsboro VFD, Sussex County Paramedics and Delaware State Police Trooper 2 were dispatched to the 30000 block of West Beach Road for a motor vehicle collision with reported entrapment. Units arrived to find a single vehicle that had overturned into the woods with one patient trapped. Crews from Millville and Dagsboro worked together using air bags, multiple hydraulic rescue tools and Sawsalls to extricate the victim in approximately 35 minutes. Once extricated, the patient was turned over to waiting BLS and ALS providers for treatment. Aviation was not utilized and the patient was transported by Millville ambulance to a local medical facility. Asst. Chief Guy Rickards had command of the incident, Deputy Chief Shane Furbush (DVFD) was the extrication officer and Fire Chief John Marvel (DVFD) acted as the safety Officer. Engine 84-6, Engine 84-2, Rescue 84, Rescue 73, Traffic Control 84, Ambulances B-84 & C-84, SCEMS Medic 105 and Trooper 2 made the response. The roadway was closed during the incident by Delaware State Fire Police. The Delaware State Police is investigating the incident. Photos by Greg Tietmeyer.
