The EMS Ambulance Subscription Program for July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 is set to mail on Friday, May 26, 2023.  Subscriptions requests are mailed to the address listed on the Sussex County Property Tax Records.  If you have any questions or do not receive a mailing by June 5, 2023, please contact us at 302-539-7557.

Over the next several weeks the residents of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company fire and ambulance district will be receiving in the mail our 2023 AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION FUND DRIVE.  We cannot express to the public the importance of participating in our AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM, our ability to respond to YOUR medical emergency may depend on it!  You can subscribe on-line at www.millville84.com , click on the BLUE star of life. 

AS A POINT OF CLARIFICATION, this AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION FUND DRIVE is SEPARATE from our FIRE fund drive (sent in October) and 5-year CAPITAL CAMPAIGN program request (sent in August).

Our ambulance service started in 1962 and this year we celebrate 62 years of delivering Emergency Medical Services to our community.  Times have surely changed, we have gone from a fully volunteer service to an almost fully career staffing model.  We are a 911 EMERGENCY EMS service and maintain 4 ambulances in our fleet.  We staff 2 ambulance crews 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  We staff a 3^rd ambulance during the busy summer season from May through September.  We currently employ 13 full-time career FF/EMT’s, 1 full-time career Lieutenant, and 1 full-time career EMS Supervisor.  We also employ a staff of part-time career FF/EMT’s to supplement our staffing as needed.  We average 5 transports to various area medical facilities daily.

WE CANNOT OVER EMPHASIZE THE IMPACT THAT AREA GROWTH HAS HAD ON OUR EMS SERVICE.  Last year the MVFC responded to 3034 dispatched fire, rescue and EMS emergencies.  Of the 3034 calls, 2562, 84%, were calls for Emergency Medical Services.   Of the 3034 total calls for service, 65% were located in the unincorporated areas of our fire and ambulance district in SUSSEX COUNTY, which is the target area of this AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION FUND DRIVE. 

Last year, the AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION FUND DRIVE was responsible for only 11% of our ambulance income.  The ambulance service had to be partially subsidized by funds previously dedicated to providing fire protection to the community. 

To help understand how our AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION FUND DRIVE works, we would like to explain how our ambulance billing works.  The MVFC always, regardless of subscription status, bills the patient’s insurance(s).  Any balance not covered by insurance is the responsibility of the patient.  If you are a member of the AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM, the MVFC writes off any balance owed by the patient. 

The cost of the AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM is ONLY $75.  The MVFC AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM covers anyone transported from your residence, as many times as needed, in the covered EMS Subscription year (July 1-June 30).  You can subscribe on-line at www.millville84.com , click on the BLUE star of life. 

Last year our return rate on our AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION FUND DRIVE was ONLY 21%.  We want to make sure our community understands that our request for funding assistance directly affects our ability to respond to YOUR EMERGENCY.  Is the AMBULANCE SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM a good deal?  The average cost of an ambulance transport is $1350.  Some might say, “I have great insurance, it doesn’t affect me”.  Again, we want to make sure our community understands that our request for funding assistance directly affects our ability to respond to YOUR EMERGENCY, regardless of how good your insurance is. 

Some areas inside our fire and ambulance district are already covered by contracts with the MVFC under our DISCOUNTED COMMUNITY-WIDE AMBULANCE SERVICE PROGRAM.  These areas are: Town of Millville, Town of Ocean View, The Woodlands at Bethany, Bethany Bay, Summerset, White Creek at Bethany, Squirrels Run, Solitude on Whites Creek and North Beach.  If you live in these towns or developments, you are already covered and THANK YOU!   Under these 3 year contracts, the entire community participates, and is covered at a reduced cost of $50 per home.  Fees are collected by the town or HOA and are forwarded to the MVFC.  If you live in a community that does not participate, and you would like your community to join this program, have your HOA leadership contact the MVFC at 302-539-7557 so we can speak to your group and get your whole community onboard.
