Early Wednesday Morning November 1^st, 2023 at 0508 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on Double Bridges Road in the area of Wild Wood Avenue south of Ocean View.  Prior to arriving additional information was received that one subject was possibly trapped in the vehicle.  The mutual aid street assignment was dispatched bringing the Roxana VFC to the scene.  In addition, units from the Sussex County EMS and Delaware State Police Aviation were dispatched to assist as well.  Upon arriving units found a single vehicle accident with a vehicle into an electric pole with the driver trapped.  The patient was extricated in approximately 5 minutes and passed off to awaiting EMS personnel.  The patient was transported by ground to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes for evaluation and treatment.  Delaware Electric Cooperative was notified to address a pole that was damaged in the collision.  The Delaware State Police is investigating the cause of the crash. 

Rescue 84, Engine 84-4, Command 84-8, Traffic Control 84-13, Ambulance A-84, Ambulance D-84, Tower 90, Quint 90-3, Medic 105, EMS 100 and Delaware Trooper 2 made the response.  Units operated for approximately 45 minutes.  Fire Chief Walter Johnson had command of the incident. 

For those reading this post, the Millville Volunteer Fire Company historically responds to several motor vehicle collisions a year on Double Bridges Road in this area.  Typically the cause is a wet roadway and the presence of falling leaves covering the roadway creating a very slippery surface.  Though we are not the investigating agency and don’t want to speculate as to the cause of this particular incident, we urge all persons traveling on Double Bridges Road to use caution and drive in a safe manner.
