National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training Program

May 19, 2024

On Sunday, 19 May 2024, The Delaware State Fire School visited the Millville Volunteer Fire Company to provide a 7-hour block of instruction for Pro-Board Certification in Traffic Incident Management. This is a nationwide certification, not just for the State of Delaware.

“TIMS” training is part of SHRP2, which was authorized by Congress in 2005 to investigate the underlying causes of highway crashes and congestion in a short-term program of focused research. The three main objections of this course are Responder Safety, Safe, Quick Clearence of the crash scene, and Prompt, Reliable, Interoperable Communications.

This course demonstrated the numerous ways in which to mitigate a traffic crash. In lieu of securing an entire highway, ways are available to limit traffic in a way to keep a lane open while providing a safety area for first responders.

Delaware State Fire School Instructors consisted of Michael Calloway, Mark Dolan, and Robbie Thomas. Special thanks to Assistant Chief Guy Rickards and FF Steve Hess for facilitating today’s training session.
