On Tuesday August 13th, 2024 at 1218 hours the Millville Volunteer Fire Company along with the mutual aid box alarm assignment was dispatched to the 31000 block of Reading Street in the Banks Development north of Millville for a reported house fire. Units arrived to find a single-story, single-family residence with smoke showing. Units were able to quickly control and contain the fire to a single bedroom within the residence with smoke damage throughout. Primary and Secondary searches were negative. During the fire three dogs were safely removed from the residence. One resident was evaluated by EMS but did not require transport. The Red Cross was contacted for four displaced residents. Engine 84-2, Tanker 84 and Ambulance D-84 made the response. Career EMS Chief Jack Wilson had command of the incident. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Selbyville VFC provided regional coverage during this incident. Units operated for approximately 45 minutes.
As units were cleaning up from this incident, at 1301 hours, another reported house fire was dispatched in the 10 block of Matthew Way in the Savannah’s Landing development in Ocean View. Units arrived to find a small fire located on the exterior of the house caused by water in an electrical outlet from powerwashing. This incident was quickly declared under control and all units returned to service.
