Dive Team Assist - DRBA Ferry Terminal, Delaware Bay
July 10, 2005
The Millville and Selbyville Dive teams broke from a training exercise at the Indian River Inlet's North Shore Marina to respond to assist the Lewes FD with a plane crash in the Delaware Bay. Divers from Blades, Seaford, Laurel, and Millsboro joined in the response, completing a total number of 25 FD Divers. Due to the complex nature of the crash and the fact that it was considered a crime scene, FD divers were not utilized as the initial dive team and instead divers from DSP responded to the scene. Four of the most experienced divers from the agency's represented were selected to be used as the R.I.T for DSP divers in case of an emergency. It was determined quickly that this was not a rescue situation and instead a much slower and well coordinated recovery. 82 Command released the remainder of the assignment to go in service. FD units staged for over two hours.
Units responding; 84-11 with Dive Trailer, Rescue 88, Utility 88, Rescue 71, Utility 87, Marine 86, 71, 87, SCEMS Medic 104, EMS 100, TROOPER 2 & 4.
