April 30, 2018
On Monday, 30 April 2018, at 1136 hours, your Millville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted by Sussex County EOC to respond to a structure fire in the 30000 block of Irons Lane. Due to type of call, Roxana, Frankford, and Dagsboro VFC’s were also dispatched. Information received was a fire may be in the attic of the dwelling.
Prior to any of the outlining fire companies arriving, it was determined there was no fire and all mutual aid fire apparatus was placed in service. Delaware State Police were then dispatched to conduct their investigation of this particular incident. There were no reported injuries.
MVFC Fire-Police were there in force today diverting traffic away from Irons Lane.
Asst. Chief Ty Webb was tasked with commanding this event. Chief Engineer Dave Carr was also on scene. Engine 84-2 was operated by pump Operator, Dennis Ayres.
As a side-note to this call, I had the occasion to be at Pump Operator’s Ayers' home when the siren activated for this call. Luckily for the residents in our fire district; I didn’t realize how fast Dennis can run when there is a fire call!
